Penang Hotels

Penang is probably the biggest tourist hotspot in Malaysia. Not surprising that you will find here a wide range of Penang Hotels. From dirt cheap to crazy expensive, Penang has them all. As there are so many hotels in many different regions of Penang, we had to split it all up. We have separated 4 main areas:

Batu Ferringhi

Batu Ferringhi is the main and most popular beach area in Penang. Not surprisingly it's here where you find some of the best and oldest hotels in Penang. In fact, the oldest hotel in Penang is the Lone Pine Hotel. It is here you can still find some traces of the old colonial grandeur of times that are now all history. Here's more about the Lone Pine Hotel.

Night life at the Batu Ferringhi beach is always fun, the night market (pasar malam) is every night available with excellent food stalls and souvenir buys for the whole family.

Gurney DriveGurney Drive

Gurney Drive is probably the most divers of all areas in Penang. Here you find the old and the new world hand in hand. Modern office and hotel towers next door to ancient temples and hawker stalls.

Not for nothing it is especially this area where many foreigners want to live once they have been approved for the Malaysia My 2nd Home program.

But there are also plenty of great hotels to breath the new UNESCO heritage city. Although Gurney Drive is maybe one of the most expensive areas in Penang but interestingly, one of the nicest and cheapest hotels in Penang is located right here in Gurney Drive: The Good Hope Inn.

So where do you start? We have set up a page with an overview of the hotels in Gurney Drive, click here to enter.

George Town Hotels

George Town is the old and most touristy part of Penang. Not surprising you will find many excellent hotels in almost all price ranges in George Town. The top hotel is of course the old Eastern & Oriental Hotel Penang, completely renovated and back in old style. This magnificent hotel is for most visitors already worth to come to Penang.

But there is more, much more actually. Our Georgetown Hotels page give you a selection of hotels we recommend in the UNSECO heritage city.

Other areas in Penang

For most tourists Bayan Lepas is not the first option to stay. That said, if you are interested in playing golf, you might consider the Hotel Equatorial as it is located besides and excellent 18 golf course, see for more about golf in Penang our Golf in Penang page.

Bayan Lepas is convenient if you arrive or depart from Penang International Airport. However, it's a long way to the beaches of Teluk Bahang and Batu Ferringhi and the George Town city center is also 15 km away. On the other hand, Teluk Bahang is a long way from the airport but has much to offer. Check out the hotels of your choice on this page
