Tioman - getaway for the whole familyTioman is probably the most famous of all Malaysian islands on the east coast. Interestingly it is not very populated. In the past Tioman was used by ships which stopped over for fresh water and supplies. Many people know the island for it's diving spots but there is more. There are spectacular waterfalls, unspoiled jungle and beautiful beaches.
The island used to be a popular spot for ships to stop over over fresh water and supplies. But today it is mainly reknown for its spectacular diving. But there is more. The Asah Waterfalls are beautiful, and there are several jungle treks through the unspoiled juingle possible. Others prefer to be on the water and get a canoe. The western part of the island is the most developed. Tekek is the main village with the ferry and the airport nearby. Here you find also the Berjaya Tioman Resort. The cheaper hotels are to be found around Juara Beach on the east site. A short trek north of Tekek is Ayer Batan, which together with Teluk Nipah and Mukut are also popular with backpackers.
Getting there and awayTioman is easy accessible by both boat and airplane. The boats from either Tanjung Gemok in Pahang and Mersing in Johor take about 2 hours. Japamala Resort Hotel Tioman Island
The Japamala Resort Hotel Tioman Island was recently rated as one of World Top 10 Ultra Boutique Resorts. There are only a dozen Malay village-style villas and chalets. Here, rooms are called Sarangs, which means 'nests' and while some lie remotely hidden in the jungle, others are perched high on stilts above the turquoise lagoon. One traveler wrote: "Gorgeous setting on beautiful Tioman island. Comfortable villas with all amenities. Excellent staff, very good food. Nothing to do but relax! Overall, Japamala is a fabulous getaway from the real world, and we'd love to visit again. There is truly nothing to do but relax. The hotel offers a few excursions (excellent snorkeling, hiking) and has an excellent spa. The resort is small (12 villas) and quiet, lots of honeymooners. This is a perfect place to unwind."
