Progress in Malaysia:
The development of Teluk Senangin

There is a lot of progress in Malaysia going on. In the area around Pangkor and Lumut this is very visible, you can check more here about the future of Pangkor and Perak mainland. On this page we have a look at Teluk Senangin, a beach area opposite of Pangkor island, still only visited by local tourist from the surrounding villages. But that is going to change.

Teluk Senangin has been a local and mostly forgotten beach area only in use by locals during the weekends and school holidays. Recently the local governments have picked up the development of Teluk Senangin as a new potential beach area. This is of course now Teluk Batik's beach is no longer the clean beach it used to be (see my Teluk Rubiah page).

When I came first to Pangkor in 2002, Teluk Senangin was empty. You could come there during the week days and find maybe a few locals fishing. Nowadays there are hotels, not only a few beach chalets. Teluk Senangin is going to get travelers.

For those travelers who do not just want to stay at the beach, there are options to hike a bit in the hills in the back.

With this piece of progress in Malaysia comes also the environmental issues. Last week when I visited the beach and main road was filled with rubbish and garbage. This is something that need to solved as it does not bring people to the beach.

As said, during the weekends and school holidays the village comes to live. The abandoned food stalls and shops open ...

Unfortunately the visitors also produce a lot of garbage and rubbish that no one seem to take care off.

A little further to the hills (and the path which leads to the Turtle Management Center) more land is cleared for more hotels. I suspect in the near future Teluk Senangin will become play a prominent factor in the progress in Malaysia.

Teluk Senangin

Without a doubt Teluk Senangin is one of those beaches seldom visited by travelers. Apart of the weekends it's a virgin beach. Here's some photos of a few years back...

Future of Pangkor and the Pangkor mainland

Lumut, Seri Manjung and Sitiawan are developing very fast. This goes with projects which demolish the surrounding. All goes in the name of progress. Even on the way to Teluk Senangin you can see it, sadly.

Here's an overview of the demolition and we can only hope it bring back something of value.

Teluk Segadas area will be transformed into a new beach area. The question rises if the development of this area and the destruction of forest is worth the investment. Here is my view.
