by: Glyn Simons

Hi Taffy
In answer to your question my father was from Tonyrefail and cycled to Sussex in the thirties looking for work.I was in Porthcawl recently for an uncles funeral,His name was also Glyn Simons and he was an estate agent in that area so if you are fron those parts you may recognise the name.
I remember Taff Harry as I used to do reception duty with him, also remember Bargee and his speciality of chappati and qua? ( a curry sauce).
Jock Miller was originally a NS but towards the end of our 2 years he extended to 3 year regular.
several years later I was serving in the Royal Engineers on exercise in Germany and came across him in a SKC cinema queue. Glyn

Hello Taff
Down at 2 inf REME we had a Naffi and we called it the Craftsman Club and it was an open door for the kiwi's as their camp was was next door to our's and it was "dry" so they had made a hole in the perimiter fence for easy access they were great company always starting the night with a Hakka and usually finnishing with a good natured brawl :-))were we would all end up in the Water tank just outside the rear window of the Club. happy valley? or green valley? yes i was picked up once caught by the screws climbing out of a window of the Long Hut "Off Limits" The following week i had another visit to your establishment :-((.
Taff did you ever visit the Paris Bar or the Lake Garden Hotel?.

jock -it was great to see your reply about bmh kamunting--can you recall that place situated in the jungle where everyone headed most week-ends[happy valley? or green valley?---come mid-night the mp's would swarm all over the place -if you did'nt have a pass you would land up on a charge---we use to go to the garrison at week ends too there where a lot of kiwi lads there-if any of them had reason to spend time in the hospital and they knew us it was usally free beers all afternoon----i also recall seeing charlie chester there doing a tour for the forces---thanks again for dropping a line great to hear from someone who was out there at the same time--cheers for now--[taffy]

Hi Taff
I remember the BMH well we were very lucky to have you lot right on our doorstep back then i had the Occasion to call on your services once when i woke up one morning to find my leg swollen up like a balloon " i couldent walk" so i was dropped off at the Hospital for treatment, i was given a chit excusing me from duties 3 day's and some pills to Take with instructions not to take all three pills at once but to spread them over the 3 days i done as requested
but after taking plll no3 i went into A DEEP SLEEP for another 2 days, everybody thought i had kicked the bucket ? I woke up to find my leg back to normal and i was starving But OK.
Happy Days
jOCK GARDINER EX 2 INF REME
