Butterfly Farm Penang Teluk Bahang
The Butterfly Farm Penang is one of those attractions which is easily overlook in the amount of interesting attractions on the north west corner of the island.
What does the farm offer? The farms' main visions are:
In my opinion the farm succeeds in her visions. There is an amazing amount of butterflies in the park available. The scenery is quite incredible, representing a real wild life jungle including streams with tropical fish, forest and even a waterfall.
In the park you can further see a nice range of animals you would be able to see should you visit the Penang National Park at Teluk Bahang including scorpions, monitor lizards, insect leafs and insect branches, lizards, chameleons, turtles and tortoises and spiders plus, of course a wide range of different free flying butterflies.
The collection is based on what you potentially can find in the Penang jungle. It is well setup with staff walking around giving explanations and offering, sometimes, to hold walking leaf on your hands.
In the garden you will find two stations with cocoons of caterpillars on their way of transforming into butterflies. The representation of the jungle is very good done with a large variety of plants and flowers.
Additional to the living plants and animals there is a permanent film running about the various butterflies in the world. Further there is a photo exposition and in a separate room, you can find more terrariums with smaller living beings as tarantulas, beetles and smaller lizards and chameleons.
There is a large impressive collection of preserved butterflies and beetles to be seen.
After visiting the Butterfly Farm Penang, you will walk through the gift shop for souvenirs. And before leaving you can have a refreshment in the cafe.
The easiest way is to take a taxi, typical price from Batu Ferringhi is RM 20. You can also take the bus to Teluk Bahang (101) and take a taxi from there. I would recommend a visit to the Butterfly Farm Penang with a visit to the Penang National Park at Teluk Bahang.
Another option after the visit is to continue to Balik Pulau, 20 km further south in Penang
