Shopping in Sitiawan and Manjung
So, can you do some decent shopping in Sitiawan and Manjung because
Pangkor does not have any shopping mall? I have had that question a few
times. To be honest, would I live somewhere where I can not find what I
want? Right!
Shopping Centers
Over the last few years Malaysia has been booming. The population has been
exploding, many new housing areas being build and... shopping centers have
risen.

Left: Giant Supermarket Sitiawan-Seri Manjung
Right: Yet nameless shopping mall in Sitiawan, Jalan Lumut
For your daily needs you can choose for The Store, Giant, Econsave
(Sitiawan), Giant and Billion in Seri Manjung and at the border of Sitiawan
and Seri Manjung a brand new Tesco is being build. There is also the yet
nameless shopping complex at Jalan Lumut.
E & E Optical shop
Already more then 10 years in Sitiawan and over 3 years in Seri Manjung, E &
E optical shop is the place to be for all your optical problems.
The shop offers a wide variety of spectacles and contact
lenses, soft- and hard lenses.
All spectacle brand names are available and the service is excellent.
Mr. Roger Ling is in the optical business since the mid seventies.
The shops are open from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 20.00 hrs.
and on Sunday from 13.00 to 17.00 hrs.
You find E & E easily in Sitiawan. It's opposite of The Store
(formerly Fajar) supermarket in the center of the town.
The location in Seri Manjung is also convenient. When you leave Sitiawan in
the direction of Lumut, you pass the first traffic light junction (it's the
junction to Ipoh and Taiping). Just after the junction is a filling station.
Next to the filling station you'll find E & E.

Computer stuff
Ming's Pusat Komputer Ming
is the best computer shop in Sitiawan. Ming and his wife run
a small but very good shop. Ming offers computer peripheral, customized
software, networking, computer sales and service, printers and office
consumables.

Ming has an excellent service. Bring your computer for service or repair and
you know you get an excellent job done. It's not just him, his staff is very
well educated. They know what they do as you would expect from a professional. I
bought my desktop and laptop here and I am more then satisfied with the service myself.
You will find Ming at:
4 Taman Tok Perdana
Jalan Raja Omar
32000 Sitiawan Perak
Telephone: 05-6917896
For those who do not know Sitiawan well enough, go to the central junction in
Sitiawan and take the direction Kampong Koh/Teluk Intan. You will find the shop
after about 1 km on your left site.
Tzien Fatt Mee Stall
If you have to visit
Ming, you may want to eat something. I have some good news. Tzien Fatt
is just opposite of Ming's shop. The shop is owned by Sunny and Doreen,
a lovely older couple who run the shop with the help of children and
some servants.
Sunny greets everybody in the traditional Chinese way with brother or sister.
If you're married it's uncle or auntie. As the name of the shop tells, Tzien
Fatt is a mee stall. Great choices here are their laksa, curry mee or mee rebus.
I have tried them all. My absolute favorite here is what they call "3 in 1". "3
in 1" is a mix of 3 different mee soups. There is laksa and curry involved. It's
very tasty but doesn't have the strong taste as laksa (shrimp paste) itself. Of
all my Chinese breakfasts I have had in Malaysia, this is "3 in 1" is my
favorite. The 3 in 1 is a noodle soup. It's a mix of curry noodles, laksa and
prawn noodles. It's a bit sour and a little spicy but a real good meal.

The story of Sunny and Doreens' mee stall started years ago when they served
their dishes to school kids in the living room of their house. Very soon the
word spread out. The rest is history. Nowadays the mee stall, I prefer
restaurant is a very well known restaurant in Sitiawan. Especially in the
weekends it can be really crowded.

Sunny, Doreen, the family and me.
The shop is open from 6am until about 2 pm. So you can have your lunch here
too. As I usually say, if a restaurant is filled with local people, the quality,
quantity and price are good, otherwise the locals would go somewhere else. If
there is only one place you have to eat in Sitiawan, Tzien Fatt is the place.
Flowers
It's hard to keep flowers in Malaysia. The Indian population uses many
flowers. Chinese and Malays use them occasionally for special reasons. But keep
flowers for a few days in good condition is difficult. Therefore it's also not
easy to find good quality flowers.
Beautiful Home
Life at Jalan Lumut in Sitiawan is a flower shop delivering
excellent quality flowers. They also offer service for weddings and parties. If
you need good flowers, real or artificial, Beautiful Home Life is your best
choice.
The flower shop Beautiful Home Life can be found on the main road at Jalan
Lumut. If you come from Seri Manjung it's about 1 km away from the shopping
center on your left.
Vegetarian Chinese restaurant
Jie Shan Lou Vegetarian Restaurant is located on Jalan Lumut, just outside
the center of the town. Go in the direction of Lumut from the Sitiawan town
centre for about 700 meter, the shop is on your right hand.
This small air-conditioned restaurant has a great selection of pure
vegetarian dishes, cheap and tasty.

The restaurant is especially recommended for the way the chefs prepare
vegetarian dishes as if they are meat. Sometimes it's hard to find the
difference in taste. Lau Kong Chou and Kan Weng Kwan offer a good service in a
decent atmosphere. One of my favorites for lunch or dinner!
You will find Jie Shan Lou Vegetarian Restaurant at:
No. 7 Medan SS 2/1
Taman Sentosa II
Sitiawan

Home Curry House
And when I mention Chinese vegetarian food, I can not leave the best Indian
restaurant out. There's not better place in the whole area then the Home Curry
House. I heard people even come form Pantai Remis to taste the food here.
The Home Curry House gets their chefs from Madras India. How much closer can
you get the traditional Indian food? Right. If you are in Sitiawan, don't forget
to have a meal here. The Home Curry House opens in the early morning and closes
around 9pm.
Coming from Lumut, pass the traffic lights at Uncle Zam. Pass the next
traffic lights. On the left side you will pass a row of shops and then you'll
see a Thai temporary market. Behind this market, at Taman Sejati 2, yes, I live
very nearby, you will find the Home Curry House. It's my personal favorite
Indian restaurant and once you're coming in you will understand why.
Wong's roasted chicken and duck
Shopping in the middle of Sitiawan and getting hungry. Lucky you! Just behind
the Fajar supermarket is a little coffee shop where Wong does his roasted
chicken and duck. It's a good deal for lunch.

Wong and his wife in Sitiawan
Wong has no menu but he and his wife speak excellent English and you point
what you want. It's all that simple and always tasty.

Wong's roasted foods
The shop opens in the early morning when you can get some excellent mee rebus
(check my Malaysian
food page). Wong usually opens at 12.45 and closes when he finishes the
prepared food, around 2pm. Cheap and good. I eat there at least once a week.
