Firecracker in Chew jetty on midnight of the 8th day

It was the best time of our lives when we were kids. The elders in the family are in happy and humorous moods because everyone is home. Laughing, playing fire cracker and works as if money is not an issue.

Waiting for the reunion dinner and waiting till it is midnight to fire away the long crackers on bamboo pole was really fun.

In our neighbor hood, we would try to see whose fire crackers can last the longest. Once a neighbor who could not find a long bamboo pole decide to places their long string of crackers on the floor around the garden and circling the house 2 to 3 times. It was sheer madness as as his is the longest, every one ran to his house to watch the crackling of fireworks.

Everyone was jumping up and down as it was also inside the house under our feet. It was funny, some cried, some scream, dogs ran to hide. The sound was deafening!

A few menfolks lighted at different times and that caused the internal and external to blast at the finale. It was fun.

Next morning it was totally a different scenario. The garden were burnt, the chicks and ducks hid themselves under the coop.

Inside the house everywhere was red frills of crackers and we were not allowed to sweep the floor.

So when I watched this scenario last year in Chew Jetty on the 8th midnight, it sure brought back lots of unforgettable and treasure memories.

So do come to Penang this Chinese New Year. There are lots of program in Penang. You can find more about Penang on my website: www.my-island-penang.com
