Becoming a Local
by Wahie Jaafar
(Pangkor Laut)
Arriving at Teluk Segadas with style.
Hi! My name is Wahie. I'm working at Pangkor Laut Resort for the past 1 and half year. As I'm not a local, I've been provided a hostel room in the island for staff.
I'll go to Pangkor at least once a week with our staff boat (which is only for staff). The journey takes approximately 10 minutes to Pasir Bogak. The best part working here is that I can have my vacation every week. Fortunately I have a local boyfriend. He'll bring me to best spot that locals know so well.
I've been to Teluk Segadas a few times. Spend days there camping with friends. Sometimes we go for day trip during weekends. It feels like I'm in a series of "Lost". Looking to the open sea. The ferry trip to Lumut Port of private ferry of Pangkor Laut Resort also will pass by the beach. This place is the hit for campers especially students during school holidays.
Usually, I just relaxing at Teluk Nipah or Coral Bay with my boyfriend. Since he's a local, he knows most of the people there. Our best spot is "No Problem Cafe" at Coral Bay. The food is nice & the environment is great. With the open air tables & chairs facing the ocean, we can enjoy the sound of waves crashing on the beach, plus the background music from the cafe.
More and more I'm becoming a local also.
