==================================== Thaipusam and Chinese New Year ====================================
January is always a busy month in Malaysia. After Christmas and New Years Eve,
the Malaysians make themselves up for two important festivals and National
Holidays: Thaipusam and Chinese New Year. The two festivals always come close to
each other.
January 29 and 30 is for the Indian population the most important with the
Thaipusam. It's probably the most spectacular festival in Malaysia and no
festival, not even Chinese New Year, Hari Raya or a school holiday set so many
people in motion. There are two main places to visit the festival: the Batu
Caves in Kuala Lumpur where every year several 100.000 people come and Penang,
at the Waterfall Temple. Maybe less people come to Penang but in the afternoon
of the 2nd day you can walk on the head, so to say.
It's a magnificent and very peaceful thing. And yes, it looks scary on the
photos, it's different when you're there. And I will be in Penang for the 4th
time in a row. It will be again a great festival. What it looks like? See for
yourself:
Two weeks after Thaipusam, the Chinese population will celebrate their new year.
And I can recommend to visit Penang. There will be a full program of activities
for around 2 weeks.
I spend Chinese New Year once in Kuala Kurau, which was fun:

==================================== Traveling in Tibet ====================================
The last few weeks I have been re-reading my diaries and journals of several journeys I made. I have spend 3 months in Tibet and thought it would be great to write some pages about Tibet for my bicycle-adventures.com website. I had to go
through my photos and slides and although I have no way near scanned and sorted all the photos out, I was able to write a couple of pages about some places I visited (plus of course some awesome photos).
Of course there was Lhasa, the magical capital of Tibet where I been several times. And then there was the beautiful Namtso Lake, the highest salt water lake in the world. On this trip to Namtso I also visited the Drikung monstery, so I have some stories about that too. I hope you like it:
