Marina Island Pangkor
====================================
In 2000 the idea of building a
man made island in front of the coast of Teluk Muroh was born. The idea was to
build a holiday island for up-market tourism with shopping malls, a new jetty
and a lot of bungalows, villas and service apartments around a lagoon. We're 10
years on the way. I have taken an eye on the process over the years. It took a
lot of time to build land out of water but finally the building process not only
started, there's already quite some finished too.

So, last week I took my bicycle and had a look. What has already been achieved?
What has to be done yet? I admit, I was impressed by the results so far.

The idea is to increase tourism in Perak. We're interested in what YOU think of
the Marina Island. Main questions we have are:
- Is it good for Pangkor and the tourist industry of Pangkor?
- What about Lumut? Will Lumut prosper too or will it suffer?
- Do you think it will have the boost for the whole are
in Perak as some want us to believe? Or is it a "doomed to fail project"
where only a few people earn a lot of money?
- What is the consequence for the whole area, Lumut,
Seri Manjung, Lumut, are you not afraid it will turn in a second
Butterworth?
Tell us what you think ===>>>>

Tortoises should be in the wild
====================================
This week my friend Mr. Goh called me if I wanted to join him to free a
tortoise he held in a garden. I had seen the tortoise, a beautiful full
grown Manouria Emys (quote from Turtle Conservation Centre). I was happy to
join him to bring the fellow back to his own environment. We took the
turtle, hiked up a hill and released it there. At first the tortoise was
hestitating to go, sheltering itself in his own shell. After about 15
minutes he (or she?) left in the safety of the jungle. Here's more photos
and the full story:

What do you think of tortoises and about this story? Despite being
endangered species, many still steal the eggs and kill turtles and tortoise
to end up in the frying pan. Organisations as the Turtle Conservation
Centre:

work. Support them too!

Real Estate in Sitiawan
====================================
Sitiawan is a booming town. When I arrived some years ago it was a sleepy little
town with nothing much that would keep you here unless you want to live
somewhere quiet. It is still quiet. That said, around town there are many
housing projects. There's still a lot for sale. Check it out if you are
interested in coming to enjoy Sitiawan.

Yin and his bicycle journey from Malaysia to China
====================================
Got a quick visitor today, Yin Hon Chow who has just started his 3 months
bicycle journey from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia to China. At the moment Yin is
already in Thailand. As I am leaving to Hong Kong to cycle roughly the same way
backwards, we might meet each other on the way.

Cooking Class Penang ==>> a real success story
====================================
Arguably the most exciting event in Penang is Nazlina's Cooking Class. What
started as a small class more then a year ago is growing fast. Much has to do
with the great location: The Tropical Spice Garden but the cooking class had to
proof itself. And it did proof itself.
Nazlina informed me she has her own shed now with her own herbs intended for the
class growing here too. Every week it seems the class gets more and more
popular. And it is not unnoticed by others.
Nazlina's cooking class will be broadcasted on the BBC cooking channel in the UK
in October. Malaysia TV will also broadcast a class with Naz. Take your change
and book now.

Buses to and from Kuala Lumpur
====================================
Due to renovations the Puduraya bus station in Kuala Lumpur is temporarily
closed. Buses leave/arrive now from from Bukit Jalil bus station, south of
the city center. This means if you travel to/from KL, you have to add a
little bit of extra time to your schedule. The RapidKL Buses transport you
from Bukit Jalil to Puduraya for RM 2.
Should you arrive at KLIA international airport, and want to come to
Pangkor, you can take the direct bus to Sitiawan (and from there a RM 12
taxi to Lumut, a much faster way to come to Pangkor)
