Cooking Traditional Food Class in PenangThe only Cooking Class in Penang!!Three times a week a Cooking Traditional Food class is held at Tropical Spice Garden. "We hold it on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays", says Nazlina. And yes, Nazlina's cooking class is the only cooking class in Penang. Nazlina's class gets international attention
Everyone is invited to sign up for her class although there is a maximum of attendants of 12 per class. The class takes three hours and involves hands-on experience starting at 9.30 AM. You will learn to identify the spices used and how to use them in your cooking. The fees also include the garden tour. The fees vary depending on the kinds of food being cooked.
Ali Henderson and her friend Lisa came to cook with Nazlina in September
2009. Within a week they recommended the class to their friends: Sally and Rod. Later,
they told us "When we are back in Adelaide, we will have a neighborly cooking competition!"
"If you have been wondering the correct ways to make curry or how do you get that special color and taste for the rendang, here is the perfect class that you should take up." "We will have fun using the traditional methods for grinding spices", says Nazlina and looking at the photos, she is right. Learn how to extract fresh coconut milk manually and find the names of the spices, its smell, how to handle them. You will find many obscure and traditional tips that you may not find in any other cookbooks.
Debbie Beevor from the UK says: I attended Nazlina's cookery course in November 2009. I booked for my first day in Penang as I guessed that other people there would be like minded foodies and so my holiday would start off on a good footing. I was right. The class was great, the recipes learned were delicious and the company delightful..add to that the perfect setting overlooking the sea and the experience can't be bettered. I have recommended this class to anyone who will listen! Learn how to fold nasi lemak using the banana leaves. Discover how many types of ketupat you can make out of coconut leaves. This cooking traditional food class is fun and educational. So, come and join Nazlina. Please fill up the form below. Please book in advance to avoid disappointment. We need at least a day notice before the date of the class. There is no minimum number of students. The maximum number of students are twelve. However, bigger groups can be catered too if ample advance notice is given.
