Pangkor Newsletter No. 65: 7 years old Johanna's adventure, SBI promo and FREE Lodging guide
December 19, 2009
Hello,
Christmas time a comin'! We here in Malaysia from Pulau Pangkor.com wish you a merry Christmas and all the best for 2010. Our Christmas edition is short but very interesting, I promise. The most exciting thing was of course Nazlina's
daughter Johanna's adventure at the rope course.
This time of the year is also important to do some updates, in this case I have reworked the Pangkor map and some other pages. More is to come.
But for now, here's what our newsletter includes for the Christmas days:

==================================== Christmas is the time for presents ====================================
Christmas time is the time for presents. My friend Nazlina called me with a strange request. Her daughter Johanna, 7 years old wanted to do the rope course. Last year her mother and brother had done the rope course with Mr. Goh, from Explore the Wilderness. According to Nazlina, Johanna deserved a special
Christmas present as she had been doing very well at school so this was a good moment to reward her.
Thus Johanna came with me for a real adventurous day. It started at 9.30 AM with a bicycle ride to Teluk Batik, 10 km from my house. On arrival we climbed up the hill, with some very steep parts (even for me). We did the rope course, followed
by a short hike to the top of the quarry at Teluk Batik. After that we went down to the Marina Waterpark for two hours fun in the pool. At the end of the day we cycled back to Sitiawan.
This extraordinary event took place on December 18. Even for many grown ups, this would have been a serious challenge, let alone for a 7 years old girl on her kid bike. But she made it and enjoyed it. Here's the full story:

Coral Bay Resort and Puteri Bayu ====================================
We have finally decided to give the Coral Bay Resort and Puteri Bayu a place
in the pulau-pangkor.com website. Both are great hotels with both their own
values. Check them out and book in advance (this year too we find many people
thinking they can book at the last moment, and Pangkor is always busy with
Christmas, New years Eve and Chinese New Year).
Although both the Coral Bay Resort and Puteri Bayu are great hotels, our
favorite hotels at Pangkor are still Pangkor Island Beach Resort and
Swiss-Garden Golf Resort & Spa Damai Laut
Updates on the website are an ongoing process. Sometimes someone asks when the
websites is finished. I always say that a website can only be finished for 90%
because there are always new pages to write, new activities popping up and
additions and updates to make. The last days I have been reworking the Pangkor
Map:
==================================== Build your own business based on a website like Pulau-Pangkor.com ====================================
Recently I got an email of someone telling me the Pangkor website was nice but
how would I make any money with "just giving" information? "And if you make
money, where is the scam?" Of course there is no scam. It's perfectly possible
to earn money with a website without scamming!
You bet I make the money with "just information". The whole principle of our
website is to deliver decent information required by visitors that leads to a
sale. The sale can be anything, a hotelroom, an ebook, a piece of bicycle or
diving equipment through EBay.
But how to build? Do you need a flashy looking website? Do you need to hire a
professional web designer? To be honest, most web designers do known how to make
a beautiful LOOKING website but do NOT know how to make the website sell.
I spend zero dollars on promotion, even better, Mr. Google pays me every month a
handsome amount of money for the quality of my website. And what I can do, YOU
can do. And no, it's no scam. Here's what AJ from Love-for-roses.com wrote in
the SBI forums about the price of SBI, which some people think is way too
high....:
"I renewed my roses site a few days ago, which cost me
nz$470 at todays exchange rate. I did some rough comparisons to how much that
cost, compared to another non SBI site (I can't use SBI for this one, I need
databases and some other stuff).
domain and hosting: $160 a year (all prices are in my NZ dollars)
I have to purchase more bandwidth. I think that's going to be an extra $120 a
year. Otherwise I run the risk of paying BIG dollars for each MB that I go over
my limit. The price you pay for more visitors eh?
I also have off site storage space as no more room for all my images and videos.
Im nearly at my limit of how much I can store in my folders, and I dont have any
more upgrade options....which means buying more space rather than a higher end
plan. Another $120 a year
I forget how much my getresponse mailout stuff is, I think around $200 a year.
I'm going to get a 1 month subscription to wordtracker for this site (can't use
the sbi brainstormer, as its against the TOU). Thats $100 in NZ $.... The full
year is us$399
So to all those people who say sbi is way overpriced and you only need cheap
hosting and a $5 domain name. My costs are about $800 a year, compared to $470
with my SBI site. And the fact that my site is down regularly for server updates
etc. That really annoys me.
Cheers, AJ "
AJ is a respected SBI user, involved in the new templates soon be available in
Sitesell. In other words, he's not just the guy next door in this sense.
==================================== Tune Hotel Penang ====================================
Airasia is a popular and cheap company to fly with. Recently Airasia opened
their own hotel in downtown Penang. It is convenient located in the vicinity of
everything you can possibly want, a few minutes from Komtar bus station, a few
minutes from the ferry and Little India and the Armenian Quarter are also within
your grasp.
Quality of the hotel is, especially for the price, excellent. Like with booking
flights, the more in advance you book, the cheaper it can be.
