Pangkor Newsletter No. 59: Penang Passion, Spice Garden, Yangshuo and more July 24, 2009 |
| Hello, Welcome back to our Pangkor newsletter. It's a bit later then you expect me to write. Reasons are plenty. I was planning 2 weeks China, it turned out to be a bit longer. Then I was visiting Penang, later more about this. And the pile of work is getting bigger and bigger. Nevertheless, I think I have again a few things to tell you which you will enjoy, or at least, I hope you will.
Peter van der Lans Sitiawan PS Let me know what you like and what you don't like. All comments are welcome. It was a great book. By the time I came back to Malaysia, Nazlina Hussin from pickles and spices.com showed me Penang Passion, a very similar book about the Penang culture and the Penang cuisine. It's a book I have to recommend. Written with style and humor, this is a great way to learn about Penang. Penang Passion is available through the Pangkor website and you can find it at Little Penang on Sundays. - http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/penang-food.html ==================================== Your Pangkor stories ==================================== It surprises me few people are willing to share their stories about Pangkor and Malaysia. Everything seems to have to be written in their own blogs which, apart of the friends they have no one else reads. The Pangkor website is visited by people in more then 100 countries. This seems to me a good reason to tell people all over the world about Pangkor, Penang, Perhentian and all those other great places in Pangkor. Common, I know many people here have plenty to tell about Malaysia, I know many are proud of your country, so tell us, tell the world what you think about Pangkor, Penang and all those other locations in Malaysia. - http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/pangkor-stories.html ==================================== Twitter and Facebook ==================================== For those of you who want to follow us on Twitter or Facebook, here are our Twitter and Facebook accounts: Twitter: http://twitter.com/psychling Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=636673166 ==================================== Golf in north west Malaysia ==================================== Golf is a very popular sports in Malaysia. Thus there are many golf courts. Around Pangkor there are Teluk Rubiah and the high qualified Damai Laut. But there more very good courts. When I was cycling to Ipoh, a few months back, I passed the Batu Gajah is the Clearwater Sanctuary Golf Resort, close to Batu Gajah. It's not the most easy to find location but it surely is a very beautiful location. Around Penang there are several golf courts, Kedah has several, even the most north state Perlis has a few. If golf is what you like, you can easily spend a 3 week holiday traveling from golf course to golf course in Malaysia. - http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/golfing.html (north west Malaysia) - http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/golf-in-malaysia.html (more about gold in Malaysia) ==================================== I love SBI ==================================== You like it or not, but I will not build another website without using Sitesell. Why not? I just love the tools, the performance, the way the system helps me building a business. You can't beat it. Honestly, if you really want to be successful on the net, you want to use Sitesell. Some webmasters claim it's for beginners. Yeah right... That's why Marc Liron, one of Microsofts leading managers left his 9000 English pounds job to work with Sitesell. It pays better off with LESS work. See for yourself: - http://ilovesbi.sitesell.com/webselling64290.html ==================================== Taiping and the Taiping Zoo ==================================== Last week I was twice in Taiping. I love the city. It's the kind of town I could live in. Big but small enough and plenty to do. Plus of course the Lake Gardens which are always a pleasure to wander around. In the mornings, if the light is good, you can have some of the most beautiful views in the world. But even if it is raining the park is beautiful. It's hardly changed over the years. And at the far part you find the best zoo in Malaysia. The Taiping Zoo beats easily any other zoo in Malaysia. It's a reasonable sized zoo with, of course a focus on more tropical animals. One of the funny things here is the monkey section. Chimpanzees sitting in their own areas while the macaques' walking around to steal food from the visitors. Or the wild monitor lizards hunting for the birds ion captivity. I like it there, always do. - http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/Taiping-Zoo.html - http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/Taiping.html ==================================== Tropical Spice Garden ==================================== Last week I went to see the Tropical Spice Garden. As usual I had not expected much. Not because I didn't think it was worth but more because I didn't expect anything. I was pleasantly surprised. The Tropical Spice Garden is a true oasis in Penang. It might not be a very big garden but it is, like one of my friends said, a small paradise. Kat and her staff have made here a true spice paradise complete with museum and gift shop in extraordinary style. Even if you don't want to buy anything, you have to admit, the soaps sold here are stylish. And the biscuits in the cafe are excellent (a cynic would say.. sure... for RM 3 you can expect something). And the garden... it's a real wowow thing. Spectacular designed on a hill slop, with small waterfalls and a huge selection of spices. I have to recommend this. It should be a mandatory visit for everyone who visits Penang. I don't have (yet) a page ready but Nazlina Hussin from pickles and spices.com has a few pages online showing the beauty. Nazlina offers also a cooking class 3 times a week in the Tropical Spice Garden. - http://www.pickles-and-spices.com/tropical-spice-garden.html - http://www.pickles-and-spices.com/cooking-traditional-food-class.html Tropical Spice Gardens website: - http://ww.tropicalspicegarden.com ==================================== Teaching in Yangshuo/China ==================================== Travelers are always looking for a way to increase their finances. Teaching is since long a way to increase the content of your wallet. In Yangshuo there are many schools in need for foreign teachers. If you are interested, please look at this page for more information about the how, what and where... - http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/teaching-in-yangshuo.html ==================================== Tai Chi in Malaysia? ==================================== I don't know about you but I always like to see people practicing tai chi in the mornings. Last week in Taiping there's many practicing this slow dance around Lake gardens. It seemed to be the perfect place to do. At Pangkor we don't have any tai chi center. There is an active yoga club though: - http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/yoga-at-pangkor.html When I was in Yangshuo China, Master Mei told me she travels in winter to warmer countries to escape the cold of China. There are resorts in Thailand and Indonesia (Bali) where she teaches tai chi, qigong and yoga. "How about Malaysia?", she asked me. "Is there any possibility to teach there?" I told her I would ask around. And so do I here. Master Mei is one of the highest qualified Chinese Tai Chi masters, see for yourself: - http://mei.yangshuotravelguide.com ==================================== 123Greetings.com ==================================== 123greetings.com is your no.1 choice for sending online e-cards.
