Pangkor Newsletter No. 56: Pangkor Puteri, CNY 2009 Penang, and more
April 20, 2009
Hello,

Welcome back to the April edition of our Pangkor newsletter. There has not been added much to the Pangkor website. So you may ask yourself, is it worth to continue reading? I can assure you, YES! Last week I was at Pangkor visiting some friends and the Pangkor Puteri Resort. Nicely located in a site street of Pasir Bogak you can have your own apartment. Read more further on.

The Swiss Garden And Pangkor Island Beach Resort informed us there are still rooms for May available but you have to hurry up. Some hotels are close to be full.

We have added a few little neat tools to the website. The site search is one of them. Another is the Social Bookmarking. We had it at the end of the page but I didn't like it, so I have moved it to the top of every page. Now you can immediately add your favorite page to Facebook, Delirious, Google, Yahoo Buzz, MySpace, Technocrati and Stumbleupon.

Pangkor Puteri Apartments
====================================

Pasir Bogak is one of the two beaches where you find plenty of hotels (the other of course is Nipah Beach - Teluk Nipah). Some refer to Pasir Bogak as the biggest swimming pool in the wold. If that is true I can't say. What I can say is that if you are looking for an apartment at Pasir Bogak, the Pangkor Puteri Apartments are probably your best bet.

The 2 and 3 bedroom apartments have living room and kitchen plus balcony. If you would want to stay here, get an apartment with views over the straits towards Pangkor Laut.

Chinese New Year in Penang 2009

====================================

While I was going through my photos, I realized I had not done anything with my photos and videos of the recent Chinese New Year in Penang. It was certainly not because I was not interested, on the contrary. The Chinese New Year festivities were a quite amazing experience. However, I simply didn't have the time (also due to my visit to Yangshuo for my http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com website). The photos were there, the videos were there, so I wrote a page and an additional photo page plus I uploaded several videos I made that day. The video of the little drummer boys was quite amazing!

New Hotel at Nipah Bay: Anjungan Beach Resort & Spa
====================================

Last month I mentioned it already, the Anjungan Beach Resort & Spa is open and ready to receive you as a guest! It's a great deal for the price with the beach just across the road.

With a Spa, a good restaurant, an extensive packet of activities the Anjungan is a good choice. What makes this hotel different from the others is the swimming pool! It is the only hotel with a pool, nicely shaped in the form of a boat. The Anjungan Beach resort & Spa is highly recommended for all travelers!

Map of Perak
====================================

A month or two back I received an email how to reach Pangkor. My description on the website was clear enough but the question was if I could make it visible. So I created a rough map with the ongoing roads of Perak. I hope you find it useful.

We like to hear from you ...

====================================

I can write a website full of information and I think it is good and honest information. However, my reviews are my reviews. I try to be as honest as I can. Still, it's always better to get a second opinion, right? I like to hear them, other readers like to hear them too.

For example, I like to hike and cycle around Pangkor and Lumut. Personally I find it rewarding and I tell you about that on many pages. Rick from www.nature-escapes.com took the test. He went in the Pangkor jungle, did a bit of hiking and wrote a nice review:

http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/water-water-everywhere-but-the-jungle-has-action-too.html

Rick is a nature lover and he certainly knows what he is talking about. Plus, he offered a beautiful photo of an Anglehead Lizard.

What story do YOU have to tell? Kayaking? Bananaboat? Hiking? What about the hotel you stayed in? Team building? Family day or passing by as an individual traveler? We invite you to tell us and the other readers what YOU think of Pangkor.

Search This Site, Search the Pangkor website
====================================

I'm not sure if you have already seen it but on the top right side of every page, I have added a search function to search the Pangkor website and the websites I have further available. This gives you the option to find quickly the page you are looking for. Just type in your keyword and click on search. A very handy tool!

Canoeing around Pangkor

====================================

Quite a few people come to Pangkor and get a canoe at Nipah or Pasir Bogak. They go a little along the beaches and maybe to Pulau Giam, just across Teluk Nipah. I did a whole circle around Pangkor last year. Sure, it took me the whole day and it was quite hard too, especially later in the day. But it was a great experience. Here's the story:

====================================
Penang Heritage City
====================================

Penang is since last year an official UNESCO Heritage City. That's great news for Penang and will have most certainly an effect on tourism. However, to my surprise there is not a lot of good websites about Penang's Heritage. Most websites seem to focus on either the tourism part or the historical part, and then only from one specific view. Penang deserves better, I think. Fortunately Nazlina Hussin picked up the challenge. She started last year her website with an extensive view of Penang's history, very well researched but without the trap that it is only readable for the people interested in history.

And she writes about Penang as a whole, taking the Malay and Chinese heritage serious. I was informed soon more will be added about the important and influential Indian part of the Penang Heritage. If you are in anyway interested in Penang, I suggest you keep a close look on Nazlina's website, it's worth reading and almost daily updated with new pages:
