Taiping 2 inf. workshop R.E.M.E

by Peter Knowles
(Nottingham UK)

Hi Brian, enjoyed your photos of 2 Inf. Workshop Taiping.Went over on the Nevasa as
you did, arrived October 1956,and left there after a couple of other postings
February 1958.Worked as a Mechanic in the Workshop, and then it was over the
perimeter fence, and either fishing the pond at the back,or up to that icy cold jungle pool.I remember Taiping Town for its relaxed atmosphere, and wonderfull
smells, the local cinema had so many fans in the roof, its a wonder it didnt
take off,and the rats running around freely,no one taking the slightest notice.
Great memories, the ice cream man by the way was nicknamed Blossom, nice fella.
I was in Basha 13,wooden buildings in those days, remember the .... beatles getting
clobbered by the fans at night.Anyway, thanks for providing the photos, stired up
some very pleasant memories,kind regards,Pete.

@ Inf Workshops Still standing
by: Leith Highcazony

Very interested to hear your story of 2 Inf workshops, I was stationed there in 1962, and was there when the place was handed over to the Malay Army. You may be interested to know the place is still standing and in full working order, I was given an escorted tour around the place, Guard room , cook house workshops , Sgts quarters and our bashers are still in use , but security is strong , Taiping town is still the same , but looks a bit older, (check it out on Google Earth) this part of the world holds the strongest memories of my life , Regards Leith leithhigh@yahoo.com.au
