Penang Cruise - Blue Whale CruisesSearching for a cruise around Penang? You just found a really cool Penang cruise! What does Blue Whale Cruises offer?
Blue Whale CruisesBlue Whale Cruises is a local company run by Mrs. Eileen Burton and her local partner Stephen Tan. The company was formed to give the general public a pleasant, affordable, safe and informative sea going experience whilst exploring Penang's natural assets and beauty not normally accessible to the public. Blue Whale Cruises started operations at February 1, 2008. Before coming to Penang, the business was in Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. on part time basis. The overall concept is to operate a small family business with the help of locals.
The "Whale" is a 47ft Chriss Craft Boat powered by a 2 diesel engine. It has A/C toilet, gallery etc and is further equipped with radar, GPS, VHF radio sonar computer navigation etc. The "Whale" is registered in the UK for 20 people and fully insured in Penang for 16 people. Safety is an essential element on board. Before departure there is always an extensive safety instruction and on board there are safety rails, life rings, life jackets, flares, first aid box and fire extinguishes in case needed. My own Penang Cruise with Blue Whale CruisesNothing can be better told then by personal experience. Sunday February 14, I was guest on the "Whale". The idea was simple: departure at 10 AM from the Tanjung Marina Jetty, an hour and a half or so sailing to Teluk Bahang, get a small boat to go on land at Monkey Beach, swim a bit. Then have lunch and sail back.
Not exciting? Wrong! But lets start at the beginning. On arrival Mrs. Eileen Burton welcomed us with a cold drink. Before departure we were informed and instructed about the safety procedures, to me probably the most important part of the journey. Despite the waters around Penang are seldom nasty, safety goes always first and with children on board we all knew what to do in case of trouble (which didn't happen anyway).
At slow speed we left the Marina Jetty following the coast line. It was easy to follow where we were heading to as I saw Penang Town Hall and Komtar Tower (photo above), followed by Gurney Drive, the new build Seri Tanjung Penang and further we sailed to Batu Ferringhi and finally Teluk Bahang.
It was a very pleasant ride, and when we arrived at Monkey Beach a local flat bottom boat picked us up for a swim at the beach. I have to admit, it is sad to see people leave all kinds of garbage at Monkey Beach and despite Teluk Bahang being a National Park, there's not a lot of cleaning done here. Still, it is absolutely worth to come here, especially with children as the water is safe, never deep too.
And should you want, you can do some jungle walking, including a walk to the Muka Head Lighthouse although you have to arrange this with both Blue Whale Cruises and the Teluk Bahang staff as the Muka Head Lighthouse is not generally open for public. Besides, it takes about 45 minutes jungle walk one way.
As I had been to the Muka Head Lighthouse, I felt it was nicer to cool off in the water. After a while we had enough and we went back to the boat. I had not imagined a Penang cruise would offer me the kind of lunch they offered me now. There was far more food then we possibly could eat. All was fresh prepared and the variety was honestly amazing (especially considering the price of RM 175 for this trip). Once we where filled up, it was time to slowly sail back following the same route we came. It was much clearer now. The journey ended at the Marina Jetty at around 5PM. I had spend a amazingly pleasant and relaxed day. And I admit, I will do it again. Book your own tour with Blue Whale CruisesYes, you too can have your own Penang cruise with Blue Whale Cruises. We strongly recommend you this experience with a company who understands that safety, service and fun are all top priority.
