I lived near your Military Camp

by Insun Sony Mustapha
(Lumut)

This message is for Mr Paton,

I am happy to see your photos from the 1950s. They bring back memories. In 1953, I lived in Kampong Jana which was just about a mile from your camp. I started school in the tiny 6-roomed Malay school called Kampong Jana Malay School (now the huge Long Jaafar Malay School). It was behind the All Saints English School. In 1957 I went to study in Ipoh but often returned to Kampong Jana because most of my siblings remained there. I was back in that Kampong Jana house in 1964.

During the 1950's, for many years, my brother Mohd Nuri bin Abdul Wahab worked as a clerk at the Kmaunting Military camp. He cycled there daily.

Thanks again.
