Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC), Terengganu.
====================================
Greetings from the Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC), Terengganu.
All of you have been very supportive of our turtle conservation work while I was
heading SEATRU (later renamed Turtle Research and Rehabilitation Group)up to the
time I retired from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu in May 2009. I would like to
take this opportunity to very sincerely thank you for your support.
Because of your generous support, the Turtle Trust Fund I had developed in the
university for turtle conservation work was very well-endowed when I left the
university.
I am pleased to inform you that we have started a new organization, the Turtle
Conservation Centre to enable us to continue with turtle conservation work that
is still so much needed in Malaysia. Please visit our newly launched website at
www.turtleconservationcentre.org to find out more about the work we do and
our dreams for turtle conservation in Malaysia.
We realise that many individuals like yourselves are keen to contribute towards
worthwhile turtle conservation projects. We have therefore launched our
"Adopt-A-Terrapin" campaign to enable members of the public to participate in
our river terrapin conservation work. In this project, river terrapin eggs are
purchased from local egg collectors, incubated and the hatchlings raised for 3
years before they are released back to the river to replenish the depleted
population. On the 9th of September 2009, 99 three-year-old terrapins were
released back into the Setiu River. Please visit the following website to view
our photo gallery for the event:
http://www.turtleconservationcentre.org/general/tccs-inaugural-terrapin-independence-day-a-joyous-event-told-in-pictures/
We are offering these 99 terrapins to the public for adoption at RM99 each.
Sponsors will receive a certificate of adoption and a picture of the terrapin.
The funds raised will enable us to continue with this important terrapin
conservation project based in the Setiu River, Terengganu. If you would like to
participate in this inaugural fund-raising activity of the TCC, please fill up
the attached form and send it back to us with your cheque written in favour of
"TURTLE CONSERVATION CENTRE." Our current mailing address is given in my
signature line below.
We will be organising more terrapin release events in the next few months. If
you would like to participate in any of them, please let us know by
ticking in the box provided in the form.
Thank you so much for reading this email and we do hope to hear back from you!
With the greatest appreciation,
Chan
