Pulau Pangkor Newsletter No. 40, Malaysia stamps, Teluk Segadas and much more November 28, 2007 |
Hello, Wow, the Pulau Pangkor newsletter celebrates it's 40th edition! Who could imagine that when I wrote the first edition, now almost 3 years ago. Since the beginning a lot of things have changed. Most, I hope, for the better!
This edition is also special because we can offer you now for the first time advertising space. These ads are travel related and easy to spot in our Newsletter. Check http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/advertise.html for some details. Keep an eye on the Pulau Pangkor website because next week, we will have a special DVD in sales about the Nine Emperor Gods festival in Penang. The DVD is compiled by Mrs. Pealy from http://www.my-island-penang.com and me and will be sold through both our websites AND in the Tow Boo Kong Temple in Butterworth. If you have missed the special pages I wrote for the festival, please visit: http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/nine-emperor-gods.html In this edition of the Pulau Pankor Newsletter:

I love magic. Wouldn't it be nice to have a wand like Harry Potter and change the world in just a swing? Well, I can't promise you that kind of magic. But when it comes to website building, there's only one kind of magic that does work: Sitesell.
http://magic.sitesell.com/webselling64290.html ==================================== Here in Sitiawan we are very happy to have Nazlina working with us for pulau-pangkor.com. Nazlina joined the team with advice and bookings for hotels in and around Pangkor Island. You may remember her as she wrote last year two successful pages for the Pangkor website: http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/pangkor-vacation-with-children.html and http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/pangkor-cycling.html Nazlina is a busy woman with 2 young children, a flourishing Tupperware business and a great website about pickles and spices used by the Malays here in Malaysia http://www.pickles-and-spices.com We wish Nazlina lots of success with her work for the Pangkor website. And in case you already have questions for Nazlina, send an email to nazlina @ pulau-pangkor.com ====================================
If you are a regular reader of the Pulau Pangkor newsletter you know I like the Nipah Bay Villa. Earlier this week I visited the hotel. The Nipah Bay Villa is extending. In the back, where it is even more quiet, a set of new chalets are build. It's not ready but it won't be long. The new rooms look great. If Pangkor is your holiday destination, and why should you skip it? then Nipah Bay Villa is the place to stay. It's just a minute or two walk from Teluk Nipah, Nipah Bay. Be quick in booking for Christmas and New Year's Eve, the hotel is more popular then ever.

==================================== You probably remember how much I love cycling. I have been cycling almost all of my life. And in the last years I have been cycling all the way from Holland down here to Malaysia. In those years I spend 2 years in China. One place, little visited but worth to go is Libo. Here's a report about that journey to Libo, a small town west of Guilin but not easy to be found: http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/libo.html ====================================
In May this year 17 shop lots burned down to the ground. It was a heartbreaking sight and no, I am not exaggerating. I came the day after the fire at Pangkor to visit my friends Mr. and Mrs. Beh. Their ikan bilis shop had been burned too. Now, almost 6 months later finally the rebuilding has started. Earlier this week I spoke with Mr. Beh who looked happy with the progress although it will take months before he will be able to open the new shop Until then he has set up a temporary shop at the end of the row where the rebuilding takes place.
In the Pangkor forum, I will keep posting about the progress. At the moment you can see how the progress goes on. Some photos show the damage and what happened after:

And yes, please visit the Ikan Bilis shop of the family.

It seems the Yangshuo-Travel-Guide.com website, my third build website attracts more people to write a little remark then the Pangkor website does. Common! I can't believe you don't have a story to tell us! Leave your Pangkor adventures at:

You can read some of the new pages people wrote on the www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com My local guide Jessie is doing a wonderful job there. I know Jessie from some years ago when she came from a little village Ping Le for the first time to Yangshuo. She was a shy young girl. Who could imagine then that she would turn into a confident tour guide. Sure, I know Jessie so I am biased. So why not let Jessie talk for herself:

And don't forget to read some of the recommendations of people who have done a tour with Jessie:

I have set up a page with explanations in detail for both websites You can choose for different types of advertising: full pages, short ads or even newsletter only ads. It's your choice. We're very flexible. Read more here: http://www.pulau-pangkor.com/advertise.html and http://www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com/advertise.html ====================================
One of the hardest to find beaches at Pangkor, no doubt. But why go to Teluk Segadas if you stay at Nipah Bay or Pasir Bogak? Ahhh... Teluk Segadas is an almost unspoiled beach. Teluk Segadas is one of the most unspoiled beaches of Pangkor. To get there, take a taxi to Teluk Gedung and hike about 20 minutes through the jungle to the beach. It's an easy hike, possible to do with your children. As said, the beach is unspoiled. You will love it.
