Pulau Pangkor Newsletter No. 38, Malay wedding, the caves of Ipoh and much more September 14, 2007 |
| Hello, Merdeka Day, Independence Day, Malaysia is now 50 years old! According to the newspapers it was a big party in Kuala Lumpur. Unfortunately these couple of days I was just not feeling very well and had to skip most of the celebrations. However, a few days before the Merdaka Day I was invited to be guest at a Malay wedding day. I say "day", it should be "days". See the article further on. The Ramadan has started. For the next 4 weeks the Malaysian Muslim population and the Muslims all around the world this means a month of fasting. I wish all the Muslims success. At 13 September I was at Pangkor to meet some friends including Mr. and Mrs. Beh. You may remember me mentioning them. They own a great little Ikan Bilis shop. They were also victims of the fire that razed many shoplots to the ground. You can check the Pangkor Forum for pictures how the main street looks like. Mr. Beh told me that on the 13th, yes, the same day, the first preparations had started for rebuilding the shops! Yippieeeeee!!!!!! Hopefully very soon I can show you some results of the first building activities!

School camps around Lumut What do school camps have to do with a Pangkor website? Easy, Pangkor, Lumut, and also Taiping are the base of a small local company Explore the Wilderness, ETW. ETW organizes school camps and team building days for schools and bigger organizations. In the last months big organizations as Petronas and HP have been doing days with Mr. Goh's ETW. Now I was invited to join for a few days with a Japanese and an Australian International school from Kuala Lumpur. All the activities took place in Teluk Batik and Teluk Rubiah, near Lumut. Here's what happened. ----------------------------------------- Gua Temperung Mr. Goh from ETW had a small group he was doing some activities with. He asked me to join them to the Gua Tempering caves near Ipoh. Here's what happened:
