Update: New pages on www.pulau-pangkor.com

Due to my little bicycle journey in Thailand and north Malaysia, this month there are no new pages on the website.

Food in Sitiawan
Grand opening of Nasi Kandar!

Usually hot news comes right in after releasing the Pulau Pangkor Newsletter. Some news however comes right on time. Like this! A very new Nasi Kandar restaurant will open on the 31st of August. As the name suggest it will offer a wide range of Indian food with tosai, apom, chicken and curry dishes. The owner is not unknown in the field of restaurants.

Behind the bus station in Lumut he already has a good restaurant. To expand his business, now he has opened a new restaurant opposite of Fajar in Sitiawan. It will be a great opportunity to give Sitiawan a visit because the lunch the restaurant will offer for FREE!

A free lunch and a good moment to do some shopping in the center of Sitiawan. Do not forget to be informed before coming to Sitiawan and visit the shopping and market pages

Yangshuo travel guide

One of the most popular places to visit in China is Yangshuo. This little town is located in Guangxi province, not far (at least in perspective of the whole of China) from Hong Kong. A night bus will bring you in 10 hours from Hong Kong to Yangshuo, a flight is only about an hour and a half. Or, if you prefer cycling, from Hong Kong it's about a good week riding your bicycle.

Yangshuo was a backpackers paradise but since the opening of China now some years ago, Chinese tourist find their way to Yangshuo too. And not for nothing. Yangshuo is arguably one of the most beautiful scenic places to visit in China.

Interested in Yangshuo? Have a look at Alf's site: www.yangshuo-travel-guide.com

Your Pangkor story: Pieter Kruger

Pieter Kruger from South Africa lived and worked for awhile in Lumut in the Harbor View apartments Here is Pieter's story about Lumut, Pangkor and the surrounding areas:

"I worked on the Jana Manjung power plant project, my family came to visit me few times in Lumut at the Harbor View apartments where i lived. This result in day trips to all the surrounding places like Pangkor's Pan Pacific Resort (officially called the Pangkor Island Beach Resort) and other quiet beaches, Damai Laut, Ipoh etc.

Now looking through your web site it feel as if I'm away from home, it was a experience i will never forget. The friendly people, good climate (rain and sunshine) markets (where my wife just went crazy) all the different kind of fruits and dishes we learned to eat.

The easy going un-hurried life of most of the people seem to rub off on to you, yes it sound unbelievable that there are still places like this in our crazy world but it exist at Lumut. The place crawl under your skin and like some locals say it got the "come back call" in it, I surely want to go back to visit Lumut (Malaysia) again.

Peter, thanks for this great site, you put lots of effort it to make it a success."

Obviously Pieter liked it here. Not for nothing is Pieter enquiring coming back to Malaysia. Pieter, we will welcome you here back!

Googlecash

Is it possible? Making money with Google? Yes it is. It is also very simple. Chris Carpenter wrote an excellent guide how to do this. So what is he using? Adwords! But the question is of course: is there still an opportunity for me? Fortunately the internet is growing and growing.

Google AdWords is an enormous market and "GoogleCash" shows you how you can profit from your own computer in your own home!

There are far more products and services than there are advertisers to promote them. Also new products and services are entering the market every day at an amazing rate. And you can be part of that. You can be one of the advertisers that make profit of this expanding market. All you need to do is read Chris' e-book and start working! Read GoogleCash and find an additional income.

Recipes

The last Pulau Pangkor Newsletter had some excellent recipes. Did you miss them? Click on MORE RECIPES page to see them again. Or download your e-book copy here. You will find also two new recipes of dishes you will able to get at Pangkor island.

Dumplings

Dumpling are an interesting kind of food. In general dumplings are made of dough stuffed with ... With what? Yes, this is the question. In principle you can fill the dough with almost everything.

Dumplings are a very Chinese dish. In fact, in China you can find only a few different kinds of dumplings. When I traveled on bicycle in China I found them here and there and everywhere. People in China eat them with garlic, chilies and sometimes with steamed bread (which b.t.w. I do not really like). The Sichuan dumplings were red of the chilies! The Malaysian dumpling are all nice spiced, not too much.

In Malaysia there is a large variety of dumplings available. Dumplings are usually cheap but since you want to try a few different kinds the meal can be a bit more expensive then a local cheap breakfast.

Breakfast? Yes, dumplings can be an excellent breakfast. In Malaysia you can have a dumplings breakfast with some rice porridge, steamed bread or simply a light soup.

Dumplings are good filling. But what are they filled with? It can be pure vegetarian but also with meat, either chicken, pork, beef or even lam although this is rare. The filling is always seasoned with herbs, chilies, peppers, lime and whatever is available. It's a highly recommended breakfast or lunch.

Usually you can find dumpling on the menu of the up-market hotels but if you want to find the best, opposite of Fajar in Sitiawan is your best bet for a great dumplings breakfast.

The two recipes included here are easy to make and low costs.

See the recipes I have added in the MORE RECIPES page or simply download the latest version of the recipe e-book copy here
